The magic coming from the rift in the universe was inspiring. If I could only.. with the right notes.. and if I moved my hand like this..
“guys guys”, give me a night and I will be able to blast fire at our enemies”
We decided to retreat from our confrontation with the big triffid for a moment and move back into the tunnel, and seeking a side-tunnel where we could rest. We opened up the first side tunnel garritas could spot and went in. In the tunnel we found an enclosed side cavern, locked behind an ancient gate. The gate was already open so we could easily enter. In the cavern there were dwarven houses, recent ones. We found clues that this area had dwarves living in it 3 to 4 months ago. Maybe there was still hope for our alies..
I found a note behind a bed, “Frans was here, tomorrow we descend to the city.” And a time marker of 6 months ago. Maybe the dwarves are deeper down into big cavern, underneath the big triffed.
On the ceiling of the cavern we found a wall painting. The images told us a story of how the dwarves went deep down, but got attacked and fled to the surface again. Garritas found some notes that the dwarves descended using rope, so the hole we saw can’t be endlessly deep.
We got a rest in, I learned to cast fireballs, and got a restoration spell of nearly epic proportions, if this will not safe our unconscious dwarf nothing will.
Just before we went to bed, we locked the gate.
The next morning, we tried to open the gate.. unsuccessfully. Lockpicks broken we went for more drastic measures. When redemption didn’t do anything except make a lot of noise, we took the rod of lordly might, turned it into a battering ram and with two tries the gate was broken down. However the noise it made was ear splitting. At first I thought that my ears were still ringing, but then I not only heard a rumbling noise, but I felt it too in my feet.
The ceiling of our little cave exploded into rubble as from it a giant purple worm appeared falling from the ceiling and falling through the cave and immediately tunneling into ground again.
“RUN!!”
We ran from the beast in terror, this creature could us all in a moment. Redempion cast a small terror on the ground to distract the worm, it worked, however it also attracted the creature, tunneling up it took a huge chunk form the tiefling and she got stung with its poisonous tail.
I ran as fast as my legs could carry me, which meant that I off course was quickly overtaken by Ricardo who flew as the wind. From the cave I could still hear Mo’ran who was jelling and banging his weapon on the ground. “Come get me you ugly worm! I’m over here”
I my head I did a quick calculation, we would never make it back to the great cavern with the triffid before getting swallowed by this creature we would have to deal with it now. I stopped running and prepared a spell.
The worm was not very distracted by Mo’ran, as it came up and attacked Redemption once again. The bite missed, however the tail hit her once again, and the she went down. I did have time to cast my spell however. In it’s primitive mind I made a corpse beetle appear (a bug the size of a rhinoceros), a couple feet in front of it and tunneling away from us right towards the great cave.
We followed the tunnel the worm left, but at the end of it there was nothing but a hole into the great cavern, with a abyss underneath it. The worm must have fallen into it.
One problem solved we used grifferion to fly towards the large pillar in the middle of the cavern. We slowly and carefully went up the pillar until we could look upon the top and see the triffids and it’s fungal helpers. We decided to strike first, it had shown us nothing but hostility so talking would probably not help. The triffids stood upon a 20ft marble platform, surrounding it were the dancing fungus people, and surrounding them both stood a circle of standing stones.
We send in missiles and magic from 120 feet away towards them but imedialty discovered that some kind of anti-magic zone was emanating from the standing stones.
When it noticed us the great triffed came of the marble platform and tried to cast a spell. I, seeing the power the spell had, send my own wave of power towards it, screwing up the spell. For a moment the triffid looked confused and then angrily at us. And stood back on its platform, re-engaging the antimagic zone.
Next it transformed into a dracon. A wyvern like creature that breathed quite severe acid breath all over us. Worst looking at the creature melted you form the insides. As I watched it I could nothing and just stand and look at is terrible visage. (paralyzed als je safe niet haalt).
Ricardo tried to get on it using a 50ft pole of lordly might, however he failed miserably. Redemption, first paralyzed fought herself free, used her cloak and teleported on top of the creature. With a yell of “SOULS!” she went to town on the creature (150damage) killing the dracon, and then the triffid when it turned back.
As soon as the creature died lightning started pouring from magical rift. Me Mor’an and Redemption fled the platform but Ricardo and Garitas decided to stay. They re-initiated the anti-magic zone and quickly looked through the rubble. The lightning appeared to be attracted to the anti-magic zone, and it came quicker and quicker as the rifst slowly started to close.
When the stream of lightning almost came constant it became even to much for Ricardo and Redemption and they ran for cover. As soon as they stepped of the platform that activated the anti-magic zone a huge ball of lightning came down obliterating everything on the platform. Being a rogue and monk, they just dodged it.
They told that they had found writing telling a story:
Praise to lord Groll, he let us into the depths where we found countless treasures and riches beyond our imagination. We erected this tribute to easier reach the surface. Long may his descendants reign.
It turned out that this giant pillar was one big statue of lord Groll.
