Chapter 24: Dragons: deathly even in death.

Esk Notebook continued:

And battle commenced. Ricardo had run after Davos, who had run away in fear. It turns out that was a good idea, as Davos was already going to for the hunk of flesh. Ricardo was able to convince him to not to give it to the dragon, and to rally the troops to fight the dragon. Which was luckily not needed.

The dragon took some fireballs to the face, a snake to the legs, and some real nasty wounds from a sharp rapier, sword and not to forget beaks. Garthoux tried to claw, bite and slap us to pieces but after a couple of seconds it tried to take off into the air. The force of air was enough to blow us from our feet and I got some nasty cuts and bruises. However Romano released a spectacular amount of magical fire from his paws and burned the dragon to the ground.. To the chagrin of everyone underneath it.

Some people went unconscious as the multi-ton monstrosity fell back to the earth. We were able to get Garritas, and K’Tau out relatifly quickly. But Doemas was right underneath the corpse, and it took a required team effort to get the dragon off.

But as soon as everyone was free, people felt elated. I must confess I released a “whoop” of adrenaline filled excitement myself. After that we took to the fascinating business of taking the dragon apart. We were able to take 30 large scales from it, to make some really nice armor. A couple of vials of dragon blood were collected. We took out its teeth to forge into weapons, and its tongue for.. well I think that it might be good for the men of Soro to take a bite.
I then tried to cut open the beast. I have read accounts on the size of the organs of some dragons, but this was a unique opportunity to have a look for myself. Something in particular that I have always wondered about is the breath weapons of dragons.
As you must know dear reader, dragons are very magical creatures, they are too big to really fly for one. I wanted to know if their breath weapon was also something inherently magical, of maybe just an organ.

Turns out.. not magical, there is an organ.

It was some kind of bladder organ, it fills up with the fumes, which can then be expulsed with great force. This dragons breath bladder (*note to self, need to come up with a better name, maybe something in draconic), was full the the bursting, and as soon as my knife hit.. it exploded.

Fumes filled nose, mouth, my tear ducts, even my pores were filled to the brim. I remember excruciating pain, blackness. Nothingness..

What happened next is an interesting story, but I’ll write it up separately as it would detract from the story of the cubes. It can be found on Page 704 of this notebook.

The rest is what I have been able to gather from the party, so I can’t stand for its factual accuracy, I however trust their accounts.
Romano, Garitas and Redemption took Grifferion to the hideout of the Gartheux. The dragons cube had to be quickly recovered before anybody else would make it there. They were able to fly over in a day. But camped under the giant tree for the night. When they woke up they found a mysterious arm and leg sticking out under the entrance of the tree..

Meanwhile Ricardo, K’Tau, Davons and Doemas together with 10 others travelled back to Soro. They did encounter a herd of 4 Gorgons. They tried to first take a sneak peak, and to go around. But the bull and a cow of the herd attacked the group, the other 2 ran away at our presence.

A rain of arrows, a grappeling snake and some excellent hits of a certain warhammer quickly dealt with the bull. However the cow had ran around and used it breath to petrify 7 of the followers. And after that smashed 5 of them to rubble. The cow was chased of by the K’tau and Ricardo, but they decided to let it go in favor of taking care of the people still living
The last 2 where stacked on the carts of wood together with the pieces of dragon, my body and the bodies of 2 others.
