Bzzzzzap!
The teleportation spell takes effect and, the environment distorts and we arrive..
Turd has send us to the teleportation circle that we cleared earlier, we should have known before that this would not go right, the deep underdark and the upperdark are different planes, and this spell shouldn’t be able to manage that, and we experiences quite the psychic strain in the attempt. However, we did arrive, just not.. right.
As we arrive I see that we are surrounded by mindflayer and an elder brain, they look very similar to the creatures we fought before and all of this right after our battle with the proto-duergar hive mind.. shit.
Turd, immediately recognizes the danger and decides use the last charges in his rod and teleport us once again, he attempts to get us to the temple of bahamut in the goblin city, something we later learn.. does not exists yet..
We arrive at the location most similar to the temple of a dragon.. the lair of a dragon! The teleportation itself again hurts us intensely, Turd was already so low, that this time it becomes to much for him, not only does he loses consciousness, he dies.
Me and Ka’tau just barely stay awake, Ka’tau thanks to the deathward spell, and me thanks to my orcish heritage. As soon as we arrive the dragon notices and his screams in anger at us. With both of us nearly dead already, in the lair of a hostile dragon I only see a single option. I grab from my bag a scroll, a scroll of dimension door and teleport both me and Ka’tau away while holding Turd. I don’t know where to aim to.. so I just aim up, in the hope that we will reach a tunnel, or maybe the outside of the mountain. Darkness follows, it could have been a second could be a day but I wake up in a dark tunnel, next to me the still body of Ka’tau lies.
I never wanted to think of this but I prepared for it anyway, as I take out the scroll of raise dead from my bag. The spell should work, but every bit of power I can gather will help, and I can’t afford to fail. I start with calling to Ehlonna, and I take the ultimate step to the path I have been working towards for a time. I speak the words to the Oath of the steadfast, the same oath said by the first member of the six bears tribe when they brought the different tribes together. I lay down 2 sapphires on Ka’tau his eyes as a offering to his god, and try to get his soul back into his body, to make sure I’m not alone in this deep dark place.
*gasp*
and Ka’tau coughs as he wakes up again.
Together we go through the same ritual again for Turd, using up my last scroll, but this time spoken by Ka’tau as he is more proficient in the clerical magic than I am. I offer up a scroll of rope trick, and with a few spoken words, also Turd we are able to get from beyond the veil.
We decide to spend the night in this dark tunnel, the dragon has not come for us yet, so hopefully it will stay away.
The next morning we risk the teleportation spell again, this time we try to play it safe and go straight to Soro. This time we arrive fine, however when we arrive we see that the town of Soro does not exists.. yet. There are no ruins of anything, just an open field the way it was found when the settlers first arrived. This also explains why the mindflayers were present after we teleported there, we had not killed them yet.
We just had some time to explore the not-yet-city when a huge portal opens up in the middle of the field. A smell of Sulphur comes from the hole and a red burning heat comes from the portal. From it steps a great demon, a balor in its full glory, with it 2 other winged demons come and.. Indy? Indy betrayed us to the demons in order to get the brain in his possession, we gave him a chance earlier, but he proved himself to dangerous to let go again..
it is an intense battle, the demons can fly, and the balor exudes a fiery aura damaging you whenever it is attacked. Both Ka’tau and Turd loose consciousness for a moment in the battle, but in the end we are able to take all the demons down, and also, Indy. The little guy goes does not want to surrender and goes down fighting. After the battle we clear up whatever remains of the demons and bury Indy. We are still unclear if we are in our own history where anything we change might have effects on past, and therefore present, selves.
After the battle we here a flute coming from a ruin, there we discover a half elf, Dox. Dox also came through the portal summoned by the demons, he had been following for some time apparently, he arrived in the netherplanes by accident and by chance was able to escape to here. We decide there is strength in numbers and he joins our small group
We explore a while and try to take a rest again, but in the middle of the night we are attacked by an skeletal monsters controlling multiple flaming skulls. The flaming skulls are quite hard to deal with as they fly so so high, but Turd and Dox are able to deal with them, while a climb the steep ravine walls and go face to face with their leader. It sways before my sword as so many monsters have before. In the cavern were it was hiding we find a small altar to Vecna, an evil god that should have no place in Soro, therefore I Destroy the altar.
Ka’tau decides we are in a lot of trouble and asks Bahamut directly for help, and he is heard! However, the bahamut summoned is not the Bamamut he knows so well. This dragon god does not yet know of Ka’tau his loyal follower and demands a price before we will help him. We promise to prepare this location of Soro for the new arrivals. Creating a temple to the dragongod, and making allies of the creatures nearby.
We start off with the Gloebgloebs, the sea creatures are hostile at first. Not wanting to make any trades, eventually we resort to a display of power, our champion (me) vs theirs. From the seas a giant Coral golem arises, I waste no time and swim towards the creature. It is a show of just how far I have come from when I first arrived here. The creature that first destroyed our boats is now.. a pushover. I tries to attack me, but it’s attacks are easily dodged. I climb up on the creature and it’s weak points seem to shine like shiny beacons as I put my sword to work. Before the golem even has a time to react it reduced to rubble. When I get to the beach again the Gloebgloebs all stare in astonishment and immediately start worshipping us as their new leaders. In the coming months we get them to start worshipping bahamut and make multiple temples to him.
I try to get some trees up, but nothing is nearby, instead a plant one of my beans. Sadly no trees sprout.. what does sprout is.. a pyramid? We decide that it could be a decent temple and before that we first go on different quests. We split up, I go to the northern forest in an attempt to find a tranquil place to make an altar to Ehlonna. It takes me some time to get there, I make some dinosaur friends on the way towards it, which might someday act as beasts of burden for the town of Soro. In the forest I go looking for a nice place, and eventually reach a still lake. But as soon as I start with with my altar a claw comes from the lake and throws my stones to the ground. I turn around and am face to face with a green dragon. Garthelemoux doesn’t seem as big as I heard from the hammers earlier, but wanting to avoid conflict I try to make a deal with the creature. It is a hard negotiation, as neither of us are willing to get insulted by the other, but in the end we make a deal. 1 big gemstone, in exchange for a half year of wood cutting by the people of Soro, and I can make an altar at the edge of the forest. For a moment I think Soro might be better of with this arrogant creature dead.. but I will not draw first blood. At the edge of the forest I get to make my small alter and I call for Ehlonna, she might not be the Ehlonna I once knew but I ask her anyway. The boon that I was promised for my service, for saving our timeline from Orcus, to finally get rid of this sword. I am blessed in that Ehlonna is willing to help me with this now, and she will get rid of this sword for me. But she warns me the price will be great. I hesitate for not a moment and go for it. It hurts so so much, but the sword that is attached to my soul is ripped free, costing me a whole level in power, and leaving a giant scar on my chests, But I Am Free!.
By the time get back Ka’tau, Turd and Dox have also returned. They have a goblin with them along, who goes by the name of Nilbog. They tell a story of a goblin town which they successfully convert to the ways of Bahamut, and going to the kobolts where they have some troubles getting in the caverns but when they end up there Ka’tau kills their leader with a single breath attack. No spells no magical hammers, he just breathed on him! The kobolds also respect power and are also prepared to work for the second coming of the great Ka’tau.
With all of us back together in Soro, we decide to enter the pyramid. The first hallways has a couple of pools of stagnant water, Turd tries to blow the water away but mainly succeeds in blasting all of us with some kind of very dangerous leeches. When we finally get rid of them we continue on. We arrive in a room filled with treasure, we are immediately skeptical, and we prove to be correct when all the treasure all groups into a big pile and starts to attack us! A treasure golem! And if that not is not enough in the top of the room a death jester arrives. Some kind of the undead jester which throws insults and makes magically enchanted jokes that are so bad that people go unconscious just to avoid listening to them!
While we are fighting the golem, who is turning into whirlwinds stealing all our stuff, as we are getting insulted, the walls are also closing in on us putting a timer behind it all. I do my best in trying to close to the Jester but it is to quick for me, so we take down the golem down first. But by the time the golem is dead the walls are getting close and we have to flee the room, which Ka’tau just barely manages. The next room is a throne room, the jester is the throne. I quickly run towards it, but in the middle of the room a giant.. room? Mimic appears and eats me up. Little does the mimic know, that when I get eaten, it can’t run away from me no more!
Just 6 seconds later I emerge from the mimic! The jester mouth hangs open, and quickly flees! I follow it to the next room, a room filled with pillars with mirrors and statues of gargoyles. As soon as the whole party enters the door the room closes and the statues animate! We make a crucial mistake and spend some time trying to align the mirrors instead of fighting the monsters, and we get quite smashed, to makes things even worse a bunch of skeletons also animate and the jester joins the fray once again. I manage to get up to the jester at some point and are able to take a bunch of his health but I get hit by one of his songs afterwards and fall down. Next thing I am magically awaken and see that I’m surrounded by the statues. Only way out is trough them. I do my best but one of their claws hit me, and I feel my blood leave me as does my consciousness.
Later the rest of the party tells of a prolonged battle with everyone aside from Dox going down. Dox is finally able to take the jester down, but not before I bleed out.
The party takes my body to the small altar I made in the northern forest, all the time reading from the book of the six bears tribe, reminding me of what I hold dear so my soul won’t stray to far away.
I wake up in a giant forest, above me there is no sky, yet more forest. At first I am confused, but I learned a lot from nana, these are the beastlands, the place where my people go to die. I am approaching by strange beast like creatures, the hunters. I know this game. I will not be game to be eaten, I run leaving them behind. Multiple obstacles hinder my path, but every time I feel like I won’t be able to manage I hear the voice of one of my friends, recounting our experiences together, the appreciation they have for me, and that they still require my help. Eventually I reach a portal, it is not open yet, but I stand by it. I do not look back to the hunt, I am not afraid, of these strange creatures, not when there are still friend that need my protection. The portal opens, I jump through and awaken!
*gasp* when I look around I see myself on the altar to Ehlonna, with all my friends around me :D.
We spend the rest of the time in this old version of Soro preparing for the settler to arrive, building walls and temples, clearing out local monsters until we are summoned by Bahamut. He is satisfied with what we have done, and sends us back to our times! Dox is also send to our time, but to the old continent, a place were he can build a new life.
We arrive at Esk her domain, at the same time the hammers are there are gladly reunite!
