Sessie 65: A watery adventure begins

In the last couple of days before Alzjarera came back I scoured his library, finding everything that I could about the demographics of this plane.

A long time ago, there was a ruler of the water plane, an elemental creature of immense size and power. It was called Kellisandra, the brakish emperor, a primordial dragon, one of the dragons that ruled the planes before our races came along. This creature, that once ruled from it’s throne, is now gone, lost. Though presuming it to be dead is probably naïve..

It’s place as the leader of the water plane has been taken by the Marid empire. Their empire floats through the water plane, it’s edges evershifting. The cities it calls it’s own are islands attached to rocks, big coral reefs or other resources’. The marid empire is led by the Kalif, it resides in the tempest court located in the city of Evershale. The Kalif controls a giant library, one of the biggest repositories of information in the whole plane, with books, teachers, but also ledgers and trade agreements. If you want any information on transactions made, goods traded or the remains of ancient githyanki temples and timeless that might have resided there, this is the place to look for it.
Entering Evershale however is not easy. Any who want to enter  it must pay “The Tax”, a touch to the divine phylactery that will take some of your faith energy, in return you will receive a silvery necklace, acting as your pass for your time in the city, any who do not want to pay the Tax themselves can use other to pay for them, many Marid opt to use their slaves as their entrance fees, an average slave being able to last 3 till 6 Taxes paid. Slaves in the Marid empire are marked with a magical symbol, that can only be gotten at the registration office in Evershale, without mark and without silver necklace the citizens of Evershale will probably try to enslave you. There is a separate military cast of slaves, the Madoek.

Surrounding the Marid empires are various Sahuagin settlements, tyrannies led by tyrants, mutants or the offspring of Kellisandra: brine dragons.

Famous places floating in the plane are the cloud forest, a giant jellyfish which itself is the forest.

The dead yards, a place where shipwrecks all eventually float to. But not everything there is a wreck, pirates roam the place. The marid empire has placed a big price on the pirate leader, any who capture him will surely be rewarded.

All debris that is to small to end up in the dead yards eventually ends up in the “salvage tide”, a lot of looters call this place their home.

The city of “Lure”, a town that is placed on the back of giant anglerfish, the fish swims around eating other cities.

Than, high up in the plane is the “bright layer”, a place where three suns, red, yellow and blue float around, lighting the place and bringing life with it. This place is filled with wildlife, a good place to get food, but also a very dangerous place to be.

Down in the depths, the “deep down” the ocean has an actual floor. Vents come up her, spewing magma into the ocean. Here mithril and adamantium can be mined. The deep down is the domain of the aboleth. These ancient creatures worship the divine kraken, every 300 years they make an offering to their god of thirteen thousand souls. These creatures are offered through some kind of upside-down pyramid, with 4 pillars of creation surrounding it. The upside down pyramid covers a chasm, it is said that no one who ever entered it has returned..

When Alzjarera returned we were called to his chambers, we found him covered in scrapes and cuts, drinking health potions to recover. Apparently the traveling between planes takes a big tax, good to keep in mind for when we ever try to get out of this watery plane.
He was not able to verify that indeed the boxes were opened and that sleeping god was waking, but he was able to discover that in some planes reality was beginning to tear, Limbo, the plane of pure chaos, slipping through. Especially the “membranes that hold the planes apart seemed to suffer. It was enough for him to help us out, and get us around, and maybe an audience with the marid prince.

We decide to first travel to Vialesh, a neutral city. Here we hope to be able to gain some independence for Alzjarera. A way to breath water ourselves, maybe some transportation. Being in dept to a marid is never a good idea. Alzjarera has a brother in Vialesh that trades in magical goods, he can introduce us to him.

On the way to Vialesh Ricardo seems to do some training, he was fighting water elementals all the time. It seemed like he is developing some new technique…
When we run into a seaweed forest, we decide to explore it a bit. Looking for lunch that is not still wriggling.

In the forest we meet an aquatic elf, she warns us of an attack of quippers(piranha). Indeed 15 fish come, some nibble on Ricardo but they are easily dealt with. The elf did not seem very impressed, and after some cheeky remarks back and forth she seems to insult Ricardo as he grabs her by the troath. She immediately gives out an alarm signal, and Redemption is able to tell us that 40 of her friends approach. She calls us Marid lovers, and demand that we surrender ourselves and our weapons. We are not very impressed by her threats, but as we do not want to massacre her people over 1 misunderstanding, we decide to go with them, keeping our weapons on us.
We are introduced to the village leader, a very old elven woman. She demands that we proof that we are not “marid lovers”. I lie through my teeth, telling her that we will go get the Marids head as proof. We get a small escort to find Alzjarera, but as soon as we run into a water elemental the “escort” starts attacking us. Proofing that these elves, even though they are enemies of marid, are still bigoted and misguided. The elves proof a bigger challenge then expected, meaning that it took 20 instead of 10 seconds to deal with them, and I was only able to charm 3 in submission instead all of them. The others, we sadly have to deal with, the other 3 we take captive for now. The party seems divided on what to do with them. As surprising as this sounds, some are actually considering taking slaves…
